Moosehead Saloon Specializes In The Unusually Delicious

Friendly service and comfortable patio make Moosehead Saloon a great stop for warm summer nights.

With warm weather here, I was thrilled to visit one of Westlake’s great patios at the at 694 Dover Center Rd.

After a brief wait, my friend and I were seated on outside, right next to a great fireplace. The fireplace was part of their outdoor heating system with two heaters and blowers to keep the outside dining area warm when nights get chilly.

We were struck by the number of unusual dishes the restaurant had on their menu – my eye was immediately drawn to a turkey burger with warmed cherries, vegetable cream cheese and cranberry mayo, which I eventually enjoyed as my meal.

As usual, my friend and I started with some potato skins – but these weren’t any ordinary skins. Called “munch skins” on the menu, we ordered potato skins filled with seafood. Yes, they were as good as they sound. One of the great things about the skins at Moosehead is that they cut the potatoes across the middle, creating bowls ready to be filled with cheese and creamy seafood goodness.

To balance out the potato skins, we got a salad to share. It was topped with egg, dried cherries, sweet pecans and our choice of homemade dressings. For dinner, I was pleased with the turkey burger and my friend had a traditional burger. She was most excited that hers came with sautéed mushrooms and onions standard.

Sandwiches at the Moosehead typically come with homemade chips, which I hear are excellent, and served with a side of spectacular French onion dip – which we tried with the fries we were both craving.

The generous portions mean there was no room for dessert, but I hope to head back out there for some dessert and to enjoy more time on the patio – named one of Cleveland’s best.

Moosehead Saloon is open for lunch beginning 11 a.m. and stays open until 2:30 a.m. They don’t take reservations, but offer call-ahead seating by calling 440-871-7742.
