Parker’s Grille & Tavern Opens in Avon Lake

Former Morton's GM, chef start Avon Lake restaurant.

Parker’s Grille & Tavern opened quietly on July 11, but is hoping a top-rate menu offered from the former general manager, and former chef, of Morton’s the Steakhouse translates into success.

Jim Mowbray left as the longtime general manager of Morton’s the Steakhouse in June, along with chef Paul Kalberer, Morton’s executive chef for the past 14 years. The two, along with Mowbray's wife Victoria, own the establishment.

The menu at Parker’s however, will focus on more than just steak.

“Hand cut steaks in house is a specialty,” Mowbray said, noting the 8 ounce filet mignon is already a proven favorite.  “For the steak lover, the New York strip steak is the way to go.”

Entrees run from $15-$22 and steaks from $25 to $35. Burgers, soups, sandwiches and flat bread pizzas are also on Parker’s menu.

The restaurant is a bit of a family affair for Mowbray. His wife, Victoria Mowbray, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, will join the staff. The restaurant bear’s the name of the couple’s son, 3-year-old Parker. The family lives in Avon Lake.

Mowbray said the open feel and polished concrete provide more of a tavern feel that the former establishments, including Bar Symon and Wood Fire Grill.

The restaurant has a full bar including 15 draft beer selections and 20 types of bottled beer. Patrons can also select from 40 wines, by the bottle or glass.

The restaurant has kept the patio and has “dolled it up” with plants and flowers, according to Mowbray.

Also remaining in the catering portion of the former Flavor the Town.

“It won’t be a full-serve restaurant with a bar and menu, we’re treating the event center as complete different side,” Mowbray said. “We’ll use that for company functions, dinners or weddings. We’re not treating it as an extension of the restaurant.”

The restaurant is open Tuesday – Thursday, 4 p.m. – 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. and Sundays from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Parker’s is closed on Monday’s.
