PetPeople Opens in City Centre Today

Healthy options for pets is the store's theme

The ASPCA reports that 62 percent of American households have a pet.

To provide the basics for a dog or cat -- that's food, medical care, training and other supplies -- owners spend between $600 and $900 per year. And that doesn't include the chew toys, treats and other indulgences.

You now have a new place to find much of that. PetPeople opens its new store in City Centre, next to , on Thursday morning.

This is the 14th PetPeople store.

PetPeople specializes in natural pet foods and healthy products for pets. Manager Matt Horowitz described it as a "neighborhood pet store."

"We're passionate about educating our associates so they can help customers make the best choices for their pet," Horowitz said. "They're not just guessing."

Stores also are involved in local animal-related organzations. PetPeople donates at least five percent of its profits to pet-related non-profits.

Horowitz said there may be events in the future at the store with local organizations.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
