The Clifton Web is Closing

Lingering recession blamed for store's closing. Going out of business sale starts Monday.

Almost two years to the day after opening in The Landings,   owner has announced the store is going out of business.

The  store, which sells unique gift items including architectuals, antiques and local items as well as greeting cards and art work, appears to be the victim of the lingering recession.

“I’ve been mulling it for awhile,” owner Mike Schneider, who moved the store from Clifton Boulevard in Lakewood in 2009, said. “Last year wasn’t good. Sales were going south instead of flatlining.”

Schneider said he will miss his regular customers.

“The people that were loyal, I’ll miss them for sure,” he said.

Starting Monday, April 4, all items in the store will be marked at 10 – 50 percent off.

“Everything’s got to go, including fixtures and cases,” Schneider said.

The store features a small art gallery featuring local artists. Unusual items include floor-to-ceiling columns, hard-to-find gifts, Lolita glasses and miniature themed clocks.

Schneider said all holiday wares, including Christmas and Halloween items, will be up for sale. Customers coming in today and over the weekend can negotiate as well. The store will remain open through April and May. Schneider has not set a firm closing date yet.
