Avon Lake Public Library Receives $6,000 GenOn Donation

Library will purchase computers, cart with donation.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, Daniel Rogatto, General Manager of GenOn’s Avon Lake plant and Mark Baird, GenOn’s Director of External Affairs, presented director Mary Crehore with a check for $6,000.

“It’s a privilege to be able to make this donation to the library. We are committed to supporting our community, especially to organizations like the library who share our values about education, the environment and community development,” Baird said.

The library purchased six laptop computers and a storage cart with the donation. The laptops arrived Nov. 22 and plans are already in place to put them to use.

Library spokesperson Jill Ralston said the library will be able to offer small group computer instruction.

"For our winter programming cycle we are planning several different computer classes to offer our patrons, like basic computer skills, Internet and maybe Word," Ralston said.

Crehore said the items have been on the library's "wish list" for awhile.

“This is a purchase the library has wanted to make for some time,” Crehore said. “A mobile lab will offer our patrons the opportunity for small group computer classes and also for staff training and development. We are very grateful to for this thoughtful donation.”
