Avon Library Branch Offers Meditation Program

October book discussion, Internet for beginners and Atmosphere Adventures are among programs.

Relaxation meditation programs

Adults and teens are welcome to melt their stress away by learning relaxation and meditation techniques. Come to the Relaxation Meditation program Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. Beginner's yoga poses may be incorporated during these one-hour programs. Pass in Review author visit

Clyde Cocke, Avon Lake resident and 1977 West Point graduate, will be sharing his first work of nonfiction, Pass in Review, a behind-the-scenes look at the United States Military Academy, during a free program 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Avon Branch. He will show photos, talk about West Point and the Long Gray Line and share his personal experiences with book publishing. After the program, the author will have copies of Pass in Review available for purchase and signing. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743. 

October adult evening book discussion

Adults are invited to join the Adult Evening Book Discussion Group when it meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Avon Branch Library.  The group will discuss The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. Copies of the book are available at the Library. New members are welcome. For more information, call the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743. 

Internet for beginners program

Adults are invited to attend Internet for Beginners, a hands-on introduction to surfing the net, including how to use Internet Explorer. This hour-and-a-half workshop will be held Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743. 

Knitting and crochet club

Adults and teens, join the Knitting and Crochet Club, a community group of knitters and crocheters who meet twice a month. Beginners and those with experience are all welcome to bring a current yarn project to work on, share ideas and help each other learn the basics or something new. Periodically, guest presenters will share instructions for special projects. The group will meet in October on Fridays, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Avon Branch Library. Atmospher Adventures with meterologist Jon Loufman

Have you ever wondered how tornadoes form, what makes the wind blow or why we can’t feel the 300 or so pounds of air pressing down on the outstretched palms of our hands? You can discover the answers to these and all of your weather questions when you embark on an Atmosphere Adventure with meteorologist Jon Loufman. Take part in hands-on, interactive weather experiments and sky-high fun for weather enthusiasts of all ages. Atmosphere Adventures will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Avon Branch Library. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743.

The Avon Branch Library will be closed to the public on Oct. 10. Staff will be attending training.

Recycled bag crochet craft

Recycle all your old blue plastic bags into a crochet purse in a two-part Recycled Bag Crochet Craft class for 10-year-olds through adults. The class will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 at the Avon Branch Library. Start saving your bags now because lots are needed. Call the Library for more information on other supplies required.
