Avon’s Candlelite Walk Starts Tonight

Three days of events will start the holiday season in Avon.

Avon’s Candlelite Walk, a perennial favorite holiday tradition, is scheduled for Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 this year.

The event, sponsored by the French Creek Merchants and the French Creek Development Associations, draws visitors from all over Northeast Ohio as well as locally.

Starting at noon on Friday, Nov. French Creek merchants and restaurants will offer “Candy Cane” specials, valuable prize drawings and tasty treats for holiday shoppers. Shops will be adorned in their holiday best showcasing thousands of ornaments and gift ideas.

Friday at dusk, stroll the candlelit sidewalks of Avon’s French Creek District, starting with the second annual “Winter Wine Walk” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m, where participants are invited to taste an array of wines and complimentary foods at participating shops. Tickets, at $10 each, may be purchased in advance or the evening of the event at participating shops.

Stop at Avon’s Old Town Hall (corner of Stoney Ridge & Detroit Roads) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to view gingerbread house exhibits. Local cake artist, Becky Rink, will act as judge for the competition. Competition entry information is available at http://www.frenchcreekdistrict.com.

Stroll along with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 1 and join in the annual Christmas tree lighting. Santa will arrive at Olde Avon Village (36840 Detroit Road) at 4:30 p.m. by horse drawn sleigh. He’ll lead the way to the Heritage Square Gazebo at the corner of Stoney Ridge Road and Detroit Road at 5 p.m. Sing along with carolers, as you make your way through the Olde Avon Village and past the shops along Detroit Road.

Watch as Santa lights the Christmas Tree and then follow him to Avon Isle, where kids can meet with Santa and enjoy refreshments. Take a moment to explore the recently restored Avon Island and get into the holiday spirit with elaborate model train exhibits. The “Rail Blazers” model train club will be on display from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Avon Isle.
