Join Fitness Walks With Lorain County Health District

Walks are every Monday night in January

If you’re looking for a way to feel better, boost your mood, control your weight and live a healthier life, walking is the cure for you, says the Lorain County General Health District. Lace up your shoes and join the Lorain County Fitness Walks, every Monday night in January at 5:30 p.m. at the Lorain County Metro Parks Splash Zone, 95 West Hamilton Road in Oberlin.

No membership is required and all ages are invited to join the walking group. At the start of the walk on Jan. 7, Mercy Regional Medical Center will be providing free blood pressure screenings at no cost to the walking group.

Each walker receives a bottle of water and a chance to win prizes for participating. Walk with WOBL/WDLW on-air personalities for 30-minutes and get to know fellow walkers. Join a walk whenever you have time in your schedule; a weekly commitment is not necessary.

Health Benefits of Walking:

  • Both high and moderate intensity walking has been proven to be as beneficial as aerobic fitness workouts like running.
  • Regular walking can lower the risk for many chronic diseases, like cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Individuals who walk regularly live longer than those who lead less active lives.
  • Walking boosts your immune system – which is important during cold and flu season.

The Lorain County Fitness Walks are sponsored by the Lorain County General Health District, WOBL 1320AM, WDLW 1380AM, Mercy Regional Medical Center and the Lorain County Metro Parks.
