Spring Art Show and Reception Ushers in New Season

Here's a list of upcoming events provided by the Avon Branch Library:

SPRING ART SHOW AND RECEPTION

Art is blooming at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. The Library is hosting a Spring Art Show throughout the month of March. Adult artists are featured in this community art show. On Thursday, March 21 from 7 to 8 p.m., a reception is being held at the Library. Everyone is welcome at both. The Spring Art Show and Reception are sponsored by the Friends of the Avon Library. CELEBRATE WOMEN IN HISTORY

Celebrate Women’s History Month with Avon Branch Library. A family friendly, interactive presentation will take place Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. Explore the world of science through the eyes of famed marine biologist, Rachel Carson. Carson’s book, Silent Spring, alerted the world to the environmental dangers of the insecticide DDT. Women in History member, Charlene Connors, will portray Carson. eMEDIA

 Take advantage of eMedia at the Lorain Public Library System. No need to get your credit card out of your wallet – just your library card. Learn more about eMedia at class at the Avon Branch Library Wednesday, March 20 at 6 p.m. eBooks, music, audiobooks and more are available through the Lorain Public Library System.  ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION

 Pick up a copy of Wherever You Go by Joan Leegant at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. This novel weaves together the stories of three people affected by Jewish extremist groups. Tuesday, March 26 at 2:30 p.m., the Avon Branch Library’s Adult Book Discussion group will discuss this book that’s described as timely and brave. New members are welcome. ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION

Be enlightened by other points of view at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. The Adult Book Discussion group will meet Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. to discuss Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. Based in 1946 in the segregated Mississippi Delta, an unlikely friendship between two servicemen, both recently back from war but from different social classes, drives this novel. FRIENDS OF THE AVON LIBRARY MEETING

The Friends of the Avon Library are having a meeting Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. New members are welcome. For more information, call the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743.

KNITTING AND CROCHET CLUB

Knitters and crocheters unite the first and second Friday of each month at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. Adults and teens are welcome to join the Knitting and Crochet Club. All skill levels are welcome. Bring a current yarn project to work on, share ideas and help each other learn. The Club will meet next on April 5 at 11 a.m. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743.
