Trash Pickup Will Resume Wednesday

Yard waste, recyclables will not be picked up this week.

Trash pickup in Avon and Avon Lake will resume on Wednesday, April 17.

Republic Services/Allied Waste has been on strike since April 15 “in sympathy” with striking Youngstown union workers.

Elizabeth Gedeon, Mayor Greg Zilka’s secretary said the company will bring in out of state, non-union workers to collect garbage.

Gedeon said that although trash will be picked up, it is highly improbably that recyclables or yard waste will be picked up.

The city of Avon is saying there will be no recyclable or yard waste pickup this week, but garbage will be collected April 17.

This week's strike marks the second time this month area sanitation workers went on strike. Workers went on a one-day strike on April 1.
