Garden Club Invites The Public To View Avon Lake's Civic Garden
Avon-on-the -Lake Garden Club invites the public to visit the club's four Civic Gardens. On June 4th they were on the NOPS (Northern Ohio Perennial Society) tour and are beautiful. Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club members have worked very hard to ready the gardens for this summer and it now time to come and visit them at 33740 Lake Rd., next to the Avon Lake Boat Dock. All of the gardens are in the Miller Road Park with the exception of Beach Park Garden which is located across Lake Road and a few blocks to the East.
Two of the gardens are located by the Peter Miller House Museum. The herb garden on the west side and the wild flower garden on the east side of the museum. The herb garden has a variety of herb plants which reflects the plants that early settlers would have used to season their food, to dye their clothing or for medicinal and healing purposes. The garden was designed and planted in 1989.
Next visit the wild flower garden on the east side. It is a 2000 square feet of shade wildflowers located under a maple grove with background of Lake Erie. It is one of the largest wildflower gardens in the state.

The Beach Park Garden is located across the street from the Miller Road Park at the corner of York Street and Electric Boulevard. This park consists of two gardens, the front (point) garden and the back garden behind the park benches. Celebrating 36 years this year, the garden was established in 1976 on a triangle of land which was use in 1900 for the Beach Park Station trolley stop. Beside the different plants you will find a marker for the trolley.
