'We Love Jeremy' Raises Record $26,600 This Year

Organization provides assistance for cancer victims, families.

In 2012 the We Love Jeremy golf outing raised $19,000 and Jeremy George's family was thrilled.

The outing, which raises money for families of children affected by cancer, is named for Jeremy George, now 23, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 17 and a student at Avon Lake High School.

This year's outing smashed last year's record, raising $26,600, a 33 percent increase from last year.

"We are absolutely thrilled with the growth of this year's event," Deborah George, Jeremy's mother and the president of Jeremy Cares Inc., said. "Growing it meant more work for our volunteers, but it also means, in the end, we can reach out to more families in need."

The outing was so large the 216 golfers (a 50 percent increase over 2012) was required to use both courses at Bob O Link golf course in Avon.

The event drew 90 sponsors and 250 for dinner. Mary Horoszko, the Development Director, Cleveland Ronald McDonald House, was there to accept the $5,000 check for the 2014 room sponsorship at the Cleveland Ronald McDonald House. This will be the fourth year this outing has allowed for this sponsorship.

"We are incredibly grateful to every one that attended, to our golfers, our sponsors, and donors," George said. "We wouldn't be able to do what we do without them." "Our supporters are truly the heart and soul of this organization."

Jeremy Cares has positively impacted others for years. This year's speaker was Megan Kuhlenschmidt who talked about the impact Jeremy Cares had on her family when their daughter Molly, 2, was diagnosed with Leukemia.

To date, services provided by the organization include holiday gifts to more than 65 patients and their entire families that had children in treatment over the Christmas Season from 2009-2012, created and provided for a food pantry for patients and families on the Hemoc/Oncology Floor at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, provided 200 gifts to the out-patient facility in 2011, updated the playroom items on the second floor of Rainbow Babies with a new 13 in 1 game table, basketball game, kitchenette, Wii accessories and games, movies, sand table and train table.

The organization has also provided needed items for the oncology floor and life specialist department. It has hosted  a  Super Bowl bash in January, contributed Halloween Trick or Treat Bags for the entire Oncology Floor of Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and began providing college care packages to pediatric survivors headed off to college to start the next phase in their lives.

Jeremy Cares is expected to expand services in the upcoming year including updating playroom at the Cleveland Ronald McDonald House after their expansion is complete, hosting a movie night for the Oncology Floor and hosting an indoor picnic for patients and their families on the Oncology Floor.

Beacon Financial Partners was the event sponsor for the second year, donating a total of $8,500 to Jeremy Cares over the last five years.
