Changing My Life with Enlighten - Week 15

I am going through the EMH Enlighten program, working toward losing weight and achieving a healthy lifestyle.

Hello everyone!

I am still hard at work in, working toward achieving a healthy body and lifestyle. Its hard to believe that it has been 15 weeks; it seems like just yesterday I started the program. Time sure flies.

This week started the second phase of the seeds of fitness program. I am really enjoying this program because between the strength and cardio programs, it really gives me ideas and helps me mix up my workouts. I really put stock in the idea that you need to mix up what you do so you keep your body guessing. It seems to me like after a while, I slow up or plateau if I don't add or change elements of what I am doing. With these workouts I have been given the tools to make fun and interesting workout programs to fit whatever time I have available to work out.

In class we discussed our "exercise personality." I seem to be a self-motivator, which I'm not super surprised about. It basically means that I am goal oriented and like to workout on my own, challenging myself. This is true to an extent, but I do like to work out in the enlighten classes. They are fun, interesting, and the people in class really motivate me. Personally, I like to work out alone for a couple of reasons. Primarily I work out wherever I can fit it in timewise. With my job and family, I take what I can get! It is a challenge to get to Enlighten classes each week, so penciling in additional class times would be tough.

Second, I occasionally get embarrassed doing certain exercises, so I push myself more when I am working out alone and not worried about how dumb I look. Ridiculous, I know, but true!

This week I lost an additional 2 pounds to make a grand total of 40 pounds! That is more than my three year old weighs, and I am thrilled to death about it. It is now not an "if I get to my ideal weight" situation, it is "when I get to my ideal weight" plan. I am more motivated every day to keep up the plan, and never look back. One of my long term goals is to participate in the Cleveland Triathlon next summer, in support of United Cerebral Palsy, for my son and in memory of my friend's son Matthew. When I get tempted, I think of them, and its easy to move past the temptation. For anyone out there trying to lose weight, I would really suggest finding a personal motivation such as this; it has really worked for me.

Time for me to go, I am off to go buy a stability ball to use when I am watching TV. Then I won't feel guilty just chilling out. Have a good week!
