It's the little things

Making our Community Great

Last week a small event happened that was lost in between the North Korea war threats and dismal ecoonomic headlines, the Lions gave the Avon Police 25 stuffed toy lions.  You probably won't read about this anywhere but here, and the 6 o'clock hasn't called yet, but this small event is a small part of what makes our community a nice place to live.  The stuffed animals were purchased by the Lions Club through donations, and donated to the Avon Police at our meeting on Thursday, March 28th at Tom's Country Place in Avon.  The purpose of the stuffed animals is to make things go a little smoother in a stressful criminal situation involving a youngster.  In a situation involving a child that might need calming down or just to make things go smoother, the stuffed animals will be employed.

This is but one of the small, and often unnoticed kind of things that we often take for granted in our town.  Are we perfect? No, but maybe little things that we need to be appreciative of are overlooked.  I have found a great group of men and women called the Lions that try to make a difference in our area.  We meet twice monthly and work on civic projects and have a great social network that continues to grow.  The Jaycees, Rotary Club, and others are also great ways to give back to the community.  Everyone works, everyone is busy, we can never go back to being like Mayberry, but we can try and hold on to those principles of hard work and civic pride that is the glue that holds a city together.  I hope that your child is never given a Lions stuffed lion, I hope you never need to call on CRS for food , I pray that you never need to contact the Lions for help with your eyesight, but take the time today to make sure that those little things are there for you or your neighbor.  Thank you for listening to me on my soapbox.
