Post 211 Will Present at Avon Lions Wounded Warrior Project

Lions Club holds benefit to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. Come out and support our troops!

The Avon Lions will be hosting a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) on May 30 at in Avon.

The WWP is an organization that helps our soldiers returning from combat deal with their disabilities. This help can be anything from getting an aid dog to helping a soldier adjust to society. To learn more about this group, go to WWP.org or check them out on Facebook. I first learned of this group in the book "Until Tuesday," which recounts a injured soldier who gets a therapy dog through WWP and the obstacles they both must overcome.

American Legion Post 211 will have its Honor Guard and Rifle Squad there to present the colors for the National Anthem. The Sandusky Veterans Home will be in attendance courtesy of donations for their tickets. The Sandusky Veterans will also be treated to a pre-game dinner by Post 211. There will be 50/50 raffles, info on WWP, and a salute to all the branches of the military. Gametime is 7pm, but get there early to catch our VIP throwing out the first pitch!

The Lions also have set up a web page for donations that will go directly to WWP via our page. The link for the page can be found at our Facebook page, "Avon Lions Night with the Crushers", or by going directly to the web page at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/group-fundraising/avon. Donations made through this page are tax deductible and a receipt will be emailed to the donor.

The Avon Lions serve several communities and have members in Bay, Avon, and like myself in Avon Lake. Lions membership is a great way to give back to the community and it will make you feel even better. Meetings are the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Tom's in Avon. Interested individuals should contact any Lion or myself to find out more.
