Honor Flight Thank You !!

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the Honor Flight organization for providing an unheralded public service that needs to be applauded.  Honor Flight is an privately funded organization that provides World War II veterans a chance to see their WW2 memorial and others in Washington DC at no cost to them.  These veterans who are members of what has been called "the greatest generation", put their lives on the line to defend our country over 70 years ago and this organization allows them to get a much deserved "thank you."      Recently, I had the honor of being a guardian on an honor flight, I was responsible for a veteran and his safety.  The day officially began for me at 4 am when I arrived at Hopkins Airport, however the support staff from the organization had arrived hours earlier and set up a buffet, organized flight info, delivered wheelchairs, and had everything set for an eventful day.  Our vets were treated to standing ovations wherever we went that day and we toured the WW2 memorial, Marine Memorial, Air Force Memorial, Vietnam Wall, Korean War Memorial, and finally observed the changing of the guard at Arlington and participated in laying a wreath at the Tomb.  All 24 vets and their guardians were taken care of and every detail was handled with military precision.  Our two leaders, Joe and Al were good humored and helpful and made sure we were informed and even entertained.  We touched down back at Hopkins at 10:30 pm and our vets special day was over.  The Honor Flight workers still had to get the wheelchairs back to the VA, and made sure everyone had a way home.  A truly great organization that makes a special day for our fast disappearing World War 2 vets deserves a big thank you and a job very well done.  Keep up the good work!!Jim HarleyHonor Flight Guardian
