It's a Marathon, Not a Race for Equities.
Investors are coming to grips with the fact that the world continues to face some serious risks and that the central bank can't solve everything.
6.2%: Increase in the Nasdaq by the end of Q3 2012
After being near flat in mid-September, stocks declined the last week of September, ending a strong quarter with a sour note. To at least some extent, the pause in the rally we have seen over the past couple of weeks can be attributed to some profit-taking on the heels of a significant multi-month uptrend. It should be noted that stocks did end the third quarter of 2012 with gains: the Nasdaq close up 6.2%, the Dow gained 4.3% and the S&P 500 rose 5.8%.
However, it is also likely that investors are coming to grips with the fact that the world continues to face some serious risks and that the central bank can't solve everything.
