Business Week is a Nice Start, But Now What?

Avon Lake must have a cell tower, bring technology up to date, get people here. Is this mayor up for the job?

Business Week is a nice start to Avon Lake thinking about business. Gaining or losing business really has impact. Encouraging everyone to buy locally, rather than shop elsewhere; Westlake and Avon, is nice.

Yet, has this city pushed hard to market Avon Lake, the job of the Mayor, and to get more business here? Or prevent business from leaving?

What about a cell tower? A cell tower is a must. Nothing beats driving near Lake Erie, Electric Boulevard, Jaycox, and so on and so on and have calls dropped. It’s aggravating enough to talk to a friend and have a call dropped. Imagine how a business person explains an important call dropped cause of a lack of a cell tower. How does that business person explain that for many years this council has been toying with the idea as to where to place a cell tower? Probably, someday, business will have a cell tower which will provide better reception, maybe.

Placing a cell tower somewhere is a leadership decision. If this Mayor and Council want to talk the talk, fine, but just don’t do it on a cell phone on Lake Road. Yeah business is important in Avon Lake, but forget about an important communication tools like a cell phone. Encouraging business and a cell tower must happen.

Also, In celebration of Business Week the city’s website is in need. Anything new? Is it user friendly, with the newest of flash to encourage new residents and market Avon Lake? In one community, the city goes so far as to paint the city’s website on the water tower. How's that technology coming along?

Business week, Avon Lake Councilman Dan Bucci establishing an Economic Development Committee on City Council, the great city services, excellent police and fire services, great roads-- all appear to make Avon Lake inviting.

Now, the city of Avon Lake needs to be marketed with more signature events. Many communities know the need to bring people in. Go visit Vermilion and it 26 bands of all varieties on the third Thursdays during summer(the last one is September). The stores are open, restaurants full and it's done well. Other counties and communities have much happening throughout the year, every weekend, every week during summer and people are spending money in their communities at their businesses.. Westlake, Amherst, Avon and even Lorain and Elyria have events to highlight the best of their communities. Every opportunity to bring just one person in to Avon Lake brings an opportunity for a discussion about what a great community Avon Lake is for families and businesses. Who knows, maybe the listener owns a business or many businesses.

Avon Lake has so much to offer that would bring people in to shop, visit, live and start or move a business in to Avon Lake. Let's not try; let's make it happen.
