Buying a Push Lawn Mower and Happy About It

Spring's here and it's time to cut the grass

We just bought a Sears Craftsman reel lawnmower. For those who might do an Internet search to shop for a “push lawnmower,” the new term for “old-time push mower” is now “reel mower.' Our newly purchased reel mower is a five blade, no gas, no spark plugs, quiet mower. The choice to purchase this mower was not based on the need to be environmentally green. After five power mowers, we just got tired of all of the needed repairs to the power mower. Did I mention this push mower has a built in blade self-sharpener?

Our near half acre lawn takes less than 30 minutes to mow. The grass looks great and there are no regrets.

Years ago we did have a push mower, but bought a power mower thinking it was the answer to quick, easy or whatever. Nope. We went through five power mowers during the next 20 years. Each year the power mower’s blades had to be sharpened, the spark plugs and other nuts and bolts fixed and maintenance was part of spring’s to do list.

As I look in our garage at the gardening tools ready for summer, I notice most are Sears Craftsman. It’s nice to know that Sears has been around through all of these years. Recently, my son bought a house and he and his wife are using a Sears push mower. I wonder if someday they will change and buy a power mower thinking it is quicker, easier and better.

Happy gardening and grass cutting whatever mower you're using. It's finally spring.
