A Day in the Life

Running through a morning in my life . . .

Woke up today at 5:30, peeled myself from bed as I started my day.  To the bathroom to brush my teeth, turn on the straight iron, wash my hair and pee.  From there, towel on my head, I went and got the kids lunchboxes (they never are where they should be) to pack their food for the day.  Gabbie had state OAA tests so she needed to get up early for breakfast.  Will had PT so I had to pack stuff for that, too.

The cats wake and start their ritual mewing and leg rubbing.  As if they would waste away if I didn’t feed them right then and there.  I got their food plates and began to clean them while I cleaned out the Keurig filter to refill it with grounds for the very necessary caffeine jolt.  I doled out the food for the fur babies, put my mug on the Keurig stand and went to blowdry my hair.  It is at this point in time that I check my phone from the overnight onslaught of messages, notices, emails.  Once my personal phone is current, I check my work Blackberry which dings around the clock.

Hair dry, I went and woke up Gabbie and put a breakfast bowl of eggs, potatoes, cheese and sausage in the microwave.  Hit the button to start the Keurig brewing and start to guess what these kids would want to eat for the day.  It is always hit or miss and most of Gab’s food comes home to me, ruined by the time I find it.

Coffee made and mixed, I sat down to continue watching my DVR’ed episode of Dancing with the Stars, which I only made it through an hour of last night.  Amidst this, Gab came and joined me, the cats ran around like they hadn’t expended any energy in weeks and the boy made his cute faced appearance from the bed.  Time for a clean diaper and fresh bottle.

Will on the couch with his drink watching Dancing with the Stars, which he loves, and I go pick out my outfit and his and straighten my hair.  About ten minutes later, hair straight, I fold the blanket on the bed and go to collect all the garbage.  I sweep the utility room removing the evidence of the cat’s ritualistic party in the cat litter, scoop the litter pan, collected bags from bathroom garbage cans and emptied leftovers from the fridge, bag of garbage on patio to be taken to dumpster at a later time.  Time to dress Will (which is more like a bloody scene from an MMA octagon – wow he is strong when he wants to be), get myself dressed and start to gather the troops.  A glance at the clock shows me it is 7:24, time to kick it into high gear, need to be in the driver seat moving by 7:30.  Dolce the cat is still not quite over his upper respiratory infection, courtesy of our shelter cat adoption, and his eyes are a hot mess.  A glance in his direction reminded me to place the drops in his eyes.  Pinning down a 9 month old kitten with backclaws who doesn’t want drops is a joyful to start the day.

Into the kitchen, shoes on the baby, yell to Gabbie to get moving – time for mental checklist.  Diapers, clothes, juice bottle for after therapy – check.  Gab’s lunch – check. Will’s food for the sitter – check.  My purse stocked – check.  Cats fed – check.  Straightener unplugged – check.  Slider closed and locked, TV off, hoodies grabbed, keys in hand – checkity check check check check.

Out to the car – baby strapped in carseat, bags put in appropriate place (purse on center console, diaper bag and Will’s lunchbox  on the ground at his feet).  Peek into back of truck to make sure my laptop bag is there.  Head out to drop Gabbie off at school, then we head out to therapy – slated to start at 8 am.

This is our routine every other Wednesday.  And this is from 5:30 – 7:30.  There is a whole 15.5 hours to the day.  I’m tired just typing it
