Table for One: The one where the city sees I lied

It's as scandalous as it can be in the suburbs.

Once upon a time, I promised I would avoid chain restaurants and fast food at all costs. It wasn’t healthy for me or locally owned businesses. And living in Avon, I want to patronize as many of my neighbors as I possibly can.

But then it happened.

I found myself house bound after a recent surgery. And after unsuccessfully searching online to see if any of my favorite local spots delivered, I was left with two choices. I could make myself dinner. Or I could order delivery from a number of chains servicing my ‘burb.

If you know anything about me, the safest bet for all involved is the latter.

So a nice “man” named Jimmy John became my BFF. So did a “family” named Zeppe.

And you know what? I liked it. A lot. And I may end up going to these restaurants again even though I can now walk around on my own accord.

I’m addicted to the Ultimate Porker at Jimmy John’s. The #17. Yes, I know it without even looking at the menu. It’s as indulgent as it sounds: tons of smoked ham and bacon on French bread. And this little sandwich shop that recently opened in Avon delivers. They don’t even care if you’re ordering one measly sandwich. They’ll still come to your doorstep. They were like my unsung heroes. Plus you could order online. Seriously, who doesn’t love that?

But I could not live on sandwiches alone. So I would alternate between there and Zeppe’s. JoJo fries, wings, pizza. There was no stopping me. And again, there was never a minimum. I could order just enough for one, and the friendly delivery folks would arrive at my doorstep. It was like magic. With lots of toppings.

Do I wish my local faves delivered and catered to my every whim? Absolutely. I would have killed for Strip's lobster pasta. But we don't always get what we want. That's pretty evident by me dining alone most days.

So there you have it. I'm a liar. I don't need a night out on the town to grab good food.

But in case you do see a Mom sitting at a table for one, it’s likely me. So come on over and say hi. Would love to meet you.

Forgive my ignorance, but are there any locally owned restaurants (non-chains) that deliver in Avon?
