A Little of This and a Little of That...

Small Business Resource Connection and Charitable Donations as Tax Deductions

Yesterday I went to my second meeting at the Avon Lake Public Library for the Small Business Resource Connection monthly class. For small businesses in Avon Lake, this is a great resource for building your business. They have a Facebook fan page as well as LinkedIn group. I encourage local businesses to take advantage of this. They are FREE and in addition to building your business, they are a great way to network.

Now to change gears a bit. The Holidays are only a little over 3 months away. Crazy I know that soon it will be cold and shopping lists will be made. If you are like me, it is tough every year to come up with gifts to purchase for everyone on your list. Not to mention, we don't always need gifts. One idea my family had was to all pitch in what we would have spent on gifts and donate it to a cause.  Not only will it make you feel good to help out others, it will also give you a tax deduction. If you decide to do any charitable donations this year, be sure to visit www.irs.gov/charities. The IRS recently revoked over 275,000 tax exempt statuses from organizations because of failure to file the correct 990 form. Because of this, you will want to search for the charity you would like to donate to and be sure that they still have a tax exempt status, which will ensure that you are allowed the tax deduction.
