Charles Hammer: Obituary

Charles F. "Chuck" Hammer, 80, of Avon Lake, passed away March 26 at the Ames Family Hospice House.

Chuck was born March 10, 1933 in Lafayette, Ohio. He graduated from Waynesfield High School in 1951 and served in the US Navy Air Wing during the Korean War, according to the Busch Funeral Home. 

He continued his education at Ohio State University and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelors Degree in Education.

He later earned a Masters Degree in Education from Kent State University.

Chuck was a teacher for the Avon Lake Schools for 24 years. He taught Science, Mechanical Drawing and Industrial Arts. He also coached football and basketball at Learwood Junior High.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, LaDene Hammer (nee Shaw) and children Mike Hammer (Deb) of Carmel, Indiana, Becky Keron (Jerry) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Jenni Jones (Bryce) of Shakopee, Minnesota. Other survivors include grandchildren Jeremy, Lindsey, Jackie, Mike, Jason, Brent, and Tyler and great grandchildren Jaiden, Carson, Campbell, Brady, and Emory. He was preceded in death by his sister Donna Jean Judy and parents Delbert N. and Marjorie J. (nee Garber).

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Friday March 29. The Funeral service will be Saturday, March 30 at Lakeshore United Methodist Church.

Rev. Nancy Manner will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden.
