Florence B. Wightman, Founding Member of Holy Spirit Church

Florence B. Wightman, 89, of Avon Lake, passed away Thursday, July 11 at New Life Hospice at the Avon Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility, Busch Funeral & Crematory Services reports.

Wightman was a founding member of the Holy Spirit Church, and before that a member of St. Joseph Church. She was a strong supporter of Avon Lake athletics and enjoyed sailing, fishing, crossword puzzles and mystery novels.

She worked for many years at the reception desk of the Aqua Marine Resort and was a member of the Erieview Elementary School PTA and a lifetime member of the Avon Lake American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary.

Florence is survived by sons Michael (Melanie) of Lakewood, Daniel (Elsje) of Avon Lake, Gary (Maureen) of Avon Lake and Ralph (Susan) of Elkhart, IN. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren Abby DuBois (Chris), Betsy, Geoffrey, Haley Workman (Jordan), Catie, Patrick, Teegan, Drew, Mac and Carl Musat (Laura) and great grandson Will. She is also survived by two sisters Adeline Lusnia of Parma and Virginia Flint (Harry) of Avon Lake. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years George R. and parents Edward and Stella (nee Jackiewicz).

Services will be Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Church. Interment to follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman at 1:15 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 211, 31972 Walker Road, Avon Lake 44012.
