Herbert Cole, Named after Herbert Hoover

Avon Lake resident, was high school vice president.

Herbert A. Cole, 82, of Avon Lake and formerly of Findlay, OH, passed away on Nov. 2. He was born on the family farm in Wharton, OH, on Dec. 23, 1929.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sabra P. Cole (nee McCullough), his children Bruce (Trudi) of San Francisco, CA, David (Stephannie) of Avon Lake, OH, Brian (Page) of Fairfax, CA, and Laurie (Inderjit) of Chicago and four grandchildren, Guston, Jolie, Samantha and Zachary.

Named after Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, Herb graduated from Mt. Blanchard High School in 1948 and was vice president of his class. Herb worked as a sales executive for LESCO (Lakeshore Equipment and Supply Co.) of Rocky River for 30 years. Post retirement, Herb enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to visit his children and working on perfecting his lawn. Herb also became a devoted grandparent, attending many sporting events and school performances and still made time for fishing, helping out his neighbors, and meeting his friends for their daily coffee at Panera.

He is survived by his siblings Melvin (Doris), Annabelle, and Carolyn Thomas (Eddie), of Findlay; Everett (Karen) of Newcastle, IN, Foster (Jo) of Mt. Blanchard, OH, Clarabelle Van Horn (Dick) of Celina, OH; Barbara Van Horn (Jim, deceased) of Auburn, IN and many nieces and nephews. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ola Cole, his brother Donald Cole, and his half-sister Virginia Fields.

Visitation and a memorial service was held this week at Busch Funeral Home in Avon Lake, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service. Busch Celebrant Jan Hart officiated. The family requests donations  be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
