Eleanor Munroe (nee Frees), 95, Active in the Community

Interested in cake decorating, enjoyed bowling and traveling.

Eleanor Munroe (nee Frees), 95, of Avon Lake passed away on Wednesday, March, 28, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Munroe was born October 23, 1916 in Cleveland. She graduated from West Dover High School in Westlake. In the 1950s to early 1960s she was employed by Dairyman's where she worked on a comptometer, the first commercially successful key-driven mechanical calculator.

Mrs. Munroe was very a member of , Day Chapter #479 of the Eastern Stars, and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America Kheedawee Court #6. She took an interest in cake decorating and enjoyed music, bowling and traveling.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Joyce) of Wakeman, Robert (Jean) of Florida, Virginia "Ginny" Sonntag (George) of Avon Lake, and Marilyn Bible (Dennis) of Avon Lake; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Capt. John Munroe, her parents William and Mary Frees (nee Forbes); brother, Robert Frees; and grandson, Terry Munroe.

Friends may call at the , 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake from 4 p.m. -8 p.mm on Sunday, April 1 with an Eastern Stars service to be held at 7:30 pm. Services are at the funeral home Monday, April 2 at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Deitz officiating. Private inurnment at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
