Lee Krejci Sr., 73, Retired Avon Lake Police Detective

Avon Lake flags will fly at half-staff this week.

Lee A. Krejci Sr., 73 of Vermilion and formerly of Amherst and Avon Lake passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 following a lengthy illness at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by his family.

He was a retired Detective and 25-year veteran of the department.

“Lee was the perfect fit for the police profession,” Avon Lake Police Chief David Owad said. “He was instrumental in establishing juvenile bureau and worked many years as a detective sergeant.

Owad said Krejci worked for the Avon Lake Police Department from 1964 – 1989.

“He started as a patrolman and then a juvenile officer,” Owad said. “He became a sergeant in 1978 and moved on to the detective bureau.”

Owad had high praise for Krejci.

“He was held in high regard by co-workers and local law enforcement,” Owad said “He was considered a substantial asset to the department.”

 Avon Lake flags will be lowered to half-staff Wednesday through Friday.

Krejci was born March 21, 1938 in Avon Lake where he was raised. He graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1956 and was also the class president and captain of the football team that year. He attended Bluffton College and Case Western Reserve University.

The deceased enjoyed boating and fishing; and especially spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by two sons, Lee A. Krejci Jr. (fiancé Armen Jones) of Willard, and Gary A. Krejci (Elizabeth) of Amherst; daughter, Suzanne J. Pennington (Brian) of Amherst; five grandchildren, Derek R. Krejci, Cassandra Pennington, Brandon Lee Krejci, Amanda and Brianne Pennington; and brother Lawrence Krejci of Catawba, OH and Marco Island, FL. Lee was preceded in death by his wife Carol L. (nee Overcott); brother Robert and his parents Lawrence and Mildred Krejci (nee Burkhardt).

Friends may call at the , 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. -9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at , 32756 Lake Road, Avon Lake, Friday, Nov. 11 at noon. Busch Celebrant Jan Hart will officiate and the Avon Lake police will conduct honors.

Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be forwarded to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St. Sandusky, OH 44870 or the Salvation Army, Lorain Corps, 2506 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052.
