Ruth K. Weiland, Last Adult Charter Member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church

Longtime resident of Avon Lake was Sunday School teacher

Ruth K. Weiland (nee Hogrefe), 90, resident of Avon Lake for 67 years, passed away at , on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was born April 21, 1922 in Amherst.

She was an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avon Lake since 1948 and was the last adult charter member of the church. Ruth taught Sunday School for more than 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and cared for the wildlife that visited her backyard.

Survivors include her children Donald Weiland Jr. (Clare) of Waldorf, MD; Susan Frantz (Rev. Donald) of Parma, OH; Judy Herbkersman (Doug) of Collins, OH; Gary Weiland (Deborah) of Bay Village, OH. Grandmother of Alan (Beverly) Weiland, Kay (Michael) Tomassi, Dan (Marcia) Herbkersman, Kathy (Cody) Walker, Amy (Bruce) Fessenden, Beth (Craig) Barner, Kim (Nick) Bailey, Jenny and Debbie Frantz. Great-grandmother of Brett and Rachel; Mike and Cole; Ruth, Bella and Luke; Olivia and Shane. Brother of Wayne (Olga), Howard (Betty), Carl (Linda), and Ken (Gwen) Hogrefe; and brother-in-law of Howard Pressnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Donald M. Weiland; sister Marilyn Pressnell, brothers Melvin and Paul Hogrefe; and her parents Fred and Freida Hogrefe.

Friends may call at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. Pastor Jeff Streeber will officiate funeral services on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 32747 Lake Road, Avon Lake with interment to follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst. Memorial contributions may be forwarded to the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.
