William J. Skall, 76, Master Mechanic

Active member of VFW, American Legion and AMVETS

William J. "Bill" Skall, 76, of Avon died Feb. 19 at home.

Skall was born June 17, 1935, to the late William and Marie (Miller) Skall. He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1953 and later served in the United States Navy.

Skall was a certified master mechanic, working at Ed Stein's, Drellishak's Auto Care and Sweetbriar Golf Course. He retired in 2001.

He was a life member as well as Sr. Vice of the VFW Post 7035 for many years. He was also a life member of AMVETS Post 511 in Sheffield Lake and a member of the American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake.

In his free time, Skall was a talented woodworker and handyman, building a sewing room for his wife and outdoor furniture for their patio.

Skall is survived by his wife, Carol Kopf-Skall; children Karen Jacobs (Pete) of Finley, Kathy Usher (Larre) of Avon Lake and Bill Skall (Anna) of Avon Lake; stepson Michael Gornall (Jennifer) of Parma; stepdaughters Claudia Hamby of North Ridgeville and Cindi Luman (Michael) of Texas; brother Ronald Skall (Bonnie) of North Olmsted; nieces Laurie and Carrie; granddaughter Amanda Faulkner (Michael) of California; step-grandchildren Julia, Darcie, Nikki, Rachelle, Sonja, Kaylee, James, Adam, Richie and Dustin; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Busch Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church or the Avon Fire Department.
