I attended a youth game Saturday where Avon played Avon Lake at Avon Middle School. We were there with friends to watch their grandson play for Avon Lake 5th grade team. I am embarrassed as a life long Avonite to see the display by Avon coaches and announcing. They are from Avon Lake, not Lake, and proud of it. If you won't call them Avon Lake, them maybe you should be announcing it as the Eagles and Shoreman, Mr. Announcer. I would also suggest using close to the same level of energy when announcing touchdowns regardless of the team.
Coaches, why are the kids being told that if they are heard saying Avon Lake that they will get push-ups? That's straight from the mouth of the boy we came to watch. They aren't stupid and they ask questions of themselves. These kids are there to play and learn good sportsmanship. I was taught that good sportsmanship was to win gracefully and lose with dignity. I was witness to the exact opposite when I watched that game.
