Avon Lake Honors Fallen Peace Officers

City personnel gathered to honor peace officers who've fallen in the line of duty.

Avon Lake safety forces took a few minutes during Peace Officer week, which concluded May 19, to honor those who perished in the line of duty.

In addition to participating in a county ceremony on May 12, Avon Lake personnel gathered on May 15 for a brief ceremony at the Safety Center. Members of the and American Legion Post 211, the and City Hall gathered for a brief ceremony that included a 21-gun salute and a flag raising and lowering to half staff.

It seems a short time ago they stood before us," the said. "We worked with them, laughed with them... Peace officers worked together for a common cause-- the welfare and improvement of our community."

Police chief David Owad briefly spoke acknowledging the importance of honoring those who were killed. Tom Lescher, head of the Service Department was responsible for the raising of the flag before it was returned to half staff for the day.
