Avon Lake Mayor Talks Heroin on Cable Access

Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka appeared on the city's public access channel June 3 to discuss an upcoming forum on heroin use.

The forum was organized in response to an uptick in heroin- and prescription pill-related deaths among the community last year — from 22 in 2011 to 60 in 2012 in Lorain County.

“There is a plague in our community about the use of prescription drugs and heroin,” Zilka said at the April 15 council meeting. “And they have resulted in several related deaths in recent months.”
