Avon Woman Injured in Morning Carjacking

24-year-old suspect reportedly from Cleveland.

said that ended with the suspect crashing in Westlake involved a 38-year-old Avon woman.

At 6:28 a.m. the Avon Police Department received a call from a woman that she had been assaulted in front of on Colorado Avenue, and her car stolen.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to to be treated for injuries sustained in the incident. The woman remained hospitalized at the time of publication.

Police located the vehicle a light green Ford Taurus, felling eastbound on Detroit Road, heading into Westlake. Police initially lost sight of the vehicle due to road conditions near Detroit Road and Crocker Road, but found the vehicle approximately one minute later after it crashed at the corner of Detroit and Bassett roads.

The driver had fled on foot to Basset Garden Apartments and forced himself inside. A second male, later determined to be the suspect's brother, was taken into custody along with the suspect.

According to the after this morning's carjacking and crash, which led to a lockdown at Bassett School as police searched for the suspects. 

In a news release, Westlake police said, "The second suspect has been identified as the 14-year-old brother of the suspect in custody of Avon PD."

Charges will be filed on in Juvenile Court for drug charges related to the suspected crack cocaine found on (the juveniles) and receiving stolen property for a car that was taken in Cleveland.

Westlake Police's preliminary findings are that the juvenile may have been in Westlake trying to find his brother after dumping another vehicle that was stolen in Cleveland.

A press release issued by Avon Police Lt. Keith Haag said the suspect was a 24-year-old man from Cleveland.

Haag said Monday afternoon no additional information could be released, including the name of the suspect.

“The matter is still under investigation,” Haag said.
