Capt. Richard Bosley Promoted to Police Chief

Next step is determining who will fill the captain, lieutenant, sergeant and patrolmen slots.

It’s official. Capt. Richard Bosley will become Avon’s next chief of police.

Bosley, a 12-year veteran of the , took the interim lead following the in late July. 

Romond, 64, spent over 30 years with the APD, the last six of which as chief.

“I’m excited and a little apprehensive at the same time; it’s some big shoes to fill,” Bosley said. 

Bosley was among four candidates who applied for the position, the other three included Lt. Larry Fischbach, Lt. Dan Fischbach and Lt. Keith Haag.

To earn the top position, the new chief outscored his peers on a three-part exam that included a background presentation, a structural review and a written exam to test merit, fitness and overall knowledge. 

Avon's Civil Service Commission, the , the human resources department and a third party company named I/O Solutions organized the exam. 

Since Mayor Jim Smith is currently on vacation, a date and time has not yet been determined to swear Bosley in as chief.

During their next meeting on Nov. 7, the CSC will determine how to implement the next round of exams to fill the open captain, lieutenant, sergeant and patrolmen positions.
