president Clinton S. Pelfrey escaped injury in a four-car crash on Chester Road Tuesday evening.
Pelfrey, 46, was stopped while heading west on Chester at state route 83 for a red light shortly after 5 p.m. A Ford Focus driven by James Gut Sr., 55, of Lorain was stopped behind him. A Volkswagon Passat driven by Nick Ulizzi, 34, of Norwalk was behind Gut.
The light changed to green, but Pelfrey was unable to move forward because of congestion.
Michael Ferry, 16, of Westlake was coming up behind the three when he told Avon police he was distracted by an ice bag falling off his knee. When he looked up again, he saw the cars ahead were still stopped and hit Ulizzi's car, which hit Gut's car which hit Pelfrey's car.
Ulizzi was taken to and Gut was taken to with what were described by police as non-incapacitating injuries.
Pelfrey said Wednesday that he was fine and that he was relieved to get away unhurt and with next to no damage to his car.
"Just glad no one was seriously hurt," he said.
Ferry was cited for assured clear distance.
