An Avon Lake teen is in Westlake jail and facing DUI and other charges after a late-night drive through a Westlake neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
reported that William Muller, 18, drove his 1991 Ford pickup into a car and then the garage door of one house in the 4400 block of Bradley Road around 3:16 a.m.
At 3:29 a.m., a resident in the 31100 block of Center Ridge Road called Westlake police and said a pickup truck had just driven through his back yard and into a creek, and that the driver had fled on foot.
While police were searching the area for him, a resident in the 4800 block of Honeylocust Lane called and said he had just chased a young man out of his home after he rang the front doorbell, came into the house, and lay down on the floor. The resident was armed with a golf club when chasing Muller out.
Muller was found and arrested shortly after that. His blood-alcohol content was a .177, more than twice the legal limit.
In addition to DUI, Muller is also being charged with hit-skip, willful-wanton disregard of safety and underage consumption. Further charges from going into the Honeylocust Lane home may be added later.
Muller has no previous DUI convictions, Westlake police captain Guy Turner said Tuesday. On March 17, Muller's 18th birthday, he was ticketed by Elyria police for driving an unsafe vehicle, a 1991 black Ford Ranger, and paid $191 in fines and court fees.
