Schools Closed, Lorain County Sheriff Issues Level 2 Snow Emergency

The Lorain County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) has declared a Level 2 snow emergency for Lorain County. More than 400 schools across Northeast Ohio, including Avon Lake, are closed. 

The LCSO maintains three levels of snow emergency ranging from Level 1, the least threatening, to Level 3, the most dangerous. 

According to the Lorain County Sheriff's website, "A Level 2 snow emergency means that roadways are extremely hazardous with blowing, drifting snow and/or flooding. Only those who feel it necessary to travel should be on the roadways. Employees should comply with workplace policies or contact their employer. This alert will remain in effect until further notice."

A Level 1 emergency indicates roads are hazardous and drivers should use extreme care.

A Level 3 snow emergency means that most roadways are closed and extremely hazardous/flooded.  "Employees should comply with workplace policies or contact their employer. Violators may be cited," the website states.
