No Injuries as Avon, Avon Lake Firefighters Fight Brush Fire

Firefighters from Avon and Sheffield Lake put out fire in midst of heat wave.

A brush fire that broke out shortly after 2:15 p.m. July 16 behind the and Village on the Green in Avon Lake is under control with several fire trucks remaining on the scene.

and Sheffield Lake firefighters battled a moderate blaze in 90 degree weather.

The fire broke out beneath the high tension wires with smoke visible from the post office, in a large field filled with natural vegetation.

“Getting the water back there was tricky,” Fire Chief Glen Eisenhardt said. “We had Avon and Sheffield Lake come out…the hose will only go so far.”

Eisenhardt said there were no injuries or damage with the exception of some wild brush and raspberries.
