North Ridgeville Police Chief's Wife Again Arrested For Shoplifting in Commons

UPDATED: Aug. 19, 4:28 p.m. Freeman entered a plea of "not guilty" at this morning's arraignment.

The wife of the North Ridgeville police chief was again arrest for shoplifting, in the same Avon shopping where she was previously arrested on thsame charge.

Elaine Freeman was charged in Avon Lake Court Sept. 18 for petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 19.

Freeman, the wife of Chief Mike Freeman, was arrested Monday, Sept. 16 for shoplifting at Kohl’s in the Avon Commons, the day before her 42 birthday.

She was arrested Nov. 19 in the Target store in Avon Commons. She was with her 2-year-old son at the time and Avon police handcuffed Freeman and placed her and her son in a holding cell, according to Newsnet5.

Her husband was initially upset that he son was placed with her in the holding cell. Avon Mayor Jim Smith at the time said his police department acted properly and did what “should have been done” when discussing the issue at the Nov. 26 Avon City Council meeting.

“This basically is the end of it,” Smith said Nov. 26.  “There were some questions about some things.”

Freeman pleaded no contest in March for that incident. She was found guilty by a judge and had her jail time because she had no previous criminal history. She was ordered to pay a $250 fine.
