Police Blotter: Runaway Driver

The following arrest information was supplied by the Avon police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

At 9 a.m. on Sept. 26, a resident called police after seeing a car speeding recklessly down Wendell Avenue. The caller said a man in a Ford Taurus was driving up and over curbs before he screeched to a halt near a dumpster at the end of the street.

When officers arrived, they were unable to locate the driver and asked a nearby construction crew if they had seen him. The workers said the man had quickly exited his vehicle and took off through a wooded area.

To expedite the search, police ran the man’s license plate number and found out his name and employer. Upon catching up with him at his place of business, the man admitted to speeding and said he had hit the gas to make it to work on time. He was not arrested. However, police did tow his car and seize his vehicle registration at the request of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
