Police Golf Outing a Success On and Off the Course

Good weather, good times and money raised to help the community

The 14th annual at on Wednesday brought together first responders and law enforcement from around Lorain County as they came out for a day of golf, fellowship, food and fundraising.

The event raised about $3,800 for the Lodge, reported officer Robert Olds, who helped organize the event.

"Much of the money goes right back into the community," Olds said. The money is used for things like scholarships and holiday toy drives, he added.

Ninety-four golfers representing Avon police and fire departments, the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Avon Lake police department, Ohio Highway Patrol, Amherst police department and corrections officers participated on a sunny, warm day that was just about perfect for golf.

While could not golf -- he's still recovering from injuries sustained in a near-fatal motorcycle accident while on duty last fall -- he was on hand to cheer on his colleagues.
