Reader Response: Is the Speed Limit On Jaycox Road 25 mph or 35 mph?

A missing speed limit sign leads to confusion on Jaycox Road.

Avon Lake Patch received the following question from reader Neil Rush:

What is the speed limit on Jaycox between Walker and Lake roads? 25 or 35 mph? Go south and watch the signs and try the same going north.

Acute observation, Neil. We took a drive on Aug. 17 and while 35 mph signs were posted both north and south on Jaycox Road between Electric Boulevard and Walker Road, the mileage changes to 25 mph on the short stretch between Electric and Lake Road, but only heading south from Lake Road. There was no sign posted heading north, leaving northbound drivers to assume to the mileage is still 35 mph.

We checked with the Avon Lake Police Department’s Lt. Duane Streator who said the speed limit (going north and south) on the stretch of Jaycox between Electric and Lake is 25.

“There was some street work done in that area and one of the signs was not put back up,” Streator said on Aug. 17, noting that his department had received several inquiries about the speed limit there. “The service department will be working on putting (a sign) back up.”

On Aug. 19. A brand new 25 mph sign had been posted heading north.

Streator said the 25 mph has been in effect for a while and he did not know the reason for the change on Jaycox Road from 35 mph to 25 mph.
