Repairs Begin on Beck Road Gas Leak

Work began day after article runs in Avon Lake Patch

Just one day after Avon Lake Patch reported on a strong gas odor on Beck Road, Columbia Gas crews were on the road, starting repairs.

Patch first learned of the gas leak July 19 after talking with two women who were neighbors. Leah Gercak and Laura Dicus, who live across the street from each other on Beck Road, both said they notified Columbia Gas June 30 and were told it could take more than a year to repair the “Grade-2” gas leak, which is not considered a danger.  

Patch contacted thethe next day to measure the leak. Fire Department dispatcher Suzanne Baker said department members went out to Beck Road, detected the odor and contacted Columbia Gas.

Crews began working on the repair July 26, the day after ran in Patch. By late afternoon, the crews were still on the street. Dicus said she was told they were having problems finding the location of the leak.

Work was continuing on Beck Road as of 5 p.m. on July 27.
