Scammer Pretending To Raise Money For Local Police

Two Avon residents recently received calls from a "Don Davis" who claimed to be raising money for local police

Avon Police Department received two reports in the last week about a man who was calling residents and local businesses, claiming to be raising money for local police departments.

First, on Feb. 26, a man calling himself "Don Davis" called the Jia Li Salon and Spa. Davis told the business that he was collecting money for a fundraiser for the Lorain Police Department, according to the Avon Police report.

However, the business called Lorain Police who advised them that this was a scam going on in surrounding cities. The Lorain Police Department then said that neither it nor of any of its affiliates were soliciting at this time.

Next, on March 1, an Avon man received a call from a solicitor who once again identified himself as "Don Davis," according to the Avon Police report.

This time, Davis said he was collecting money for the Avon Chapter of the Blue Knights.

When the person receiving the call said he would leave a donation at the police station, Davis told him that they were not collecting donations there.

Before disconnecting, Davis gave the man a phone number to reach him that turned out to be invalid.
