Suspect accused of shoplifting from Kohl's

A woman faces theft and drug charges after Avon police say she was caught shoplifting at on March 12.

Tania Koutsopoulos, 19, was charged with theft, possession of a Schedule 3 substance and possession of dangerous drugs. Two minors who were with her were brought to the police station to call their parents and be picked up.

A woman was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after being pulled over on I-90 around 1:05 a.m. on March 12. Teri Speidel, 35, was charged.

A Stoney Ridge Road woman told Avon police on March 13 that she received a check for $3,200 from someone claiming to be from Australia who said they wanted to buy a $500 motorcycle listed on Craigslist. The woman was told to cash the check and send the rest of the money to a Western Union office in Florida.

Police told the woman this was a scam and to not do anything with the check, also to ignore any further contact from the audacious Aussie.

Yikes!

A semi truck was spotted going west on I-90 just before 7:30 on March 11. The problem was he was in the eastbound lanes. Police reported the driver got turned around and was not cited.

Bang!

Avon police were called to neighborhoods on opposite sides of town within seven minutes of each other after residents in both areas heard gunfire shortly before 10 p.m. on March 12.

The first call came in at 9:50 p.m. in the 2300 block of Delray Lane, saying the gunfire sounded like it came from the back of the Stonebridge development. The second call came in at 9:57 p.m. in the 43oo block of South Fall Lake Drive.

Police checked both places but found nothing.

ET or ALF?

Someone called Avon police around 7:27 p.m. on March 11 to report that there were three lights in the sky in a perfect diagonal line. Police said it appeared to be air traffic from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, not a UFO.
