$300k Ohio Grant Means New Lights, Intersection at Jaycox and Walker Roads

New turn lanes, traffic signals part of plan.

Avon Lake has received a substantial grant from the state of Ohio, Ohio Public Works to upgrade the Jaycox Road -Walker Road intersection.

The city received a $359,110 grant for the project, city engineer Joe Reitz said. Avon Lake originally applied for the grant in September of 2012.

Work includes extending left -turn left lanes north and southbound on Jaycox Road as well as eastbound on Walker Road. It also includes all new traffic signals, cross walks and LED lights.

“It will be upgraded to the same emergency backup as we currently have at (SR) 83 and Walker, Moore and Walker and hopefully before not too long, Lear and Walker,” Reitz said. “We hope to get design started this fall.”

Construction will not begin until at least 2014.
