Rome? Seoul? Niagara Falls? AL on Vacation Contest is Back

Going on vacation? Don't forget to bring along AL, snap a pic and enter this eco-friendly contest.

Even though the summer is going by quickly there is still time for residents of Avon Lake to send in photo’s with AL the alligator on vacation.

The is again asking for people to take AL on vacation or on any outdoor visit and snap a photo with AL and something related to the importance of keeping the city’s waters clean.

“AL has started traveling the world but the contest is not limited to areas outside of Ohio or even Avon Lake,”Joe Reitz said.

Reitz has become a regional spokesperson for keeping waterways and Lake Erie clean and encouraging residents and businesses to utilize practices that prevent polluting waterways.

Those snapping photos of AL need to write about where they visited and what is significant about where AL is and how the location is important in having clean water.

Entries can be received from any Avon Lake resident. Multiple entries are accepted but each entry needs to be for a different location and different explanation.

The best photo and explanation will be chosen at the event in September, so there’s plenty of time to enter. Prizes and giveaways will be given to the winners, who could walk off with a rain barrel or a $50 Recreation Department Gift Certificate.

What you need:

  • You need an AL with his T-shirt to identify him
  • Need to say where you were when you took the photo
  • Write up a brief one paragraph explanation of why AL sees your photo being important to clean storm water.

Submissions can be sent through the City web site or to the Engineering Department at jrreitz@avonlake.org

Winning entries will be posted on the Avon Lake web site after the event.
