ALHS, Key Club and Post Holding 9/11 Ceremony, Flag Placing

Names of victims will be read on 10th anniversary of 9/11

On the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks, a ceremony will be held at Avon Lake High School that will include the reading of names of victims and an opportunity for visitors to reflect in the .

The “We Will Not Forget” ceremony, marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, is being held by the ALHS Key Club with members of the American Legion Post 211 participating. The ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Members of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club have been invited to read the names of victims.

On Sept. 9, Key Club members will place 2,819, one for each of the Sept. 11, 2001 victims, on the front lawn (off SR 83) in front of , an event that has become an annual tradition. On Sept. 11, near those flags, the names of those who lost their lives on 9/11 will be read.

The bugler will sound Taps at the times of each attacks at 8:46 a.m.,(The first plane strikes the World Trade Center Tower # 2); 9:03 a.m. (World Trade Center Tower # 1 is struck); 9:37 a.m. (the third plane strikes The Pentagon); and 10:03  a.m. (the fourth plane crashes near Shanksville, PA).

Following the reading of names, the public is invited to reflect in the 9/11 Memorial Garden of Empowerment.
