Avon Fire, Police Levies Pass By Comfortable Margin

Renewal levies continue to cost between $11.51 and $15.26 per $100,000 home valuation, annually.

Twin 5-year .5 mill equipment levies easily earned voters approval at the Aug. 7 special election, with a vote of 701 (68.86 percent) to 317 (31.14 percent) for the fire levy and 684 (67.39 percent) to 331 (32.61 percent) for the police levy.

Both the Avon police and fire departments were requesting .5-mill renewal levies, listed on the ballot as Issues 1 and 2. Money generated from the levies is for equipment.

 The equipment levy has been in existence since the fire department became full time in 2003. It will  continue to cost property owners $11.51 per $100,000 home valuation for the next five years.

The equipment levy is about 15 years old.Property owners will continue to pay $15.26 per $100,000 home valuation for the next five years with the levy's approval.

The fire department levy raises $273,4470 annually. The police levy generates $369,511 annually.
