Getting ready for Halloween? We've got some tips for you.

This year, Avon Lake has designated trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.

Keeping with tradition, members of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club will be partnering with the and passing out candy from patrol cars.

is offering these safety tips:

  • Children should not go out alone. Younger trick-or-treaters should be accompanied by an adult.
  • Avoid masks that obstruct vision. Also parents should make sure the child's costume allows him/her to move and run without tripping.
  • Parents or children should carry a flashlight after dark or attach reflective tape to the child's costume.
  • Remind children to look both ways and to cross only at corners. Make a predetermined route and give children a specific time in which to be home.
  • Remind children to only accept treats at a front door and NEVER to enter a stranger's home or car for any reason.
  • Parents should discard unwrapped candy and inspect all treats before allowing the children to eat the treats.
